Ms. Thiessen joins the Chertoff Group with a background in comparative and international politics, democratization, development and emerging markets, and a regional focus on Africa and the Middle East. Awarded a Fulbright-Hayes scholarship in 2007, Ms. Thiessen worked in East Africa on anti-corruption, education policy and community development projects, and in several research capacities. She returned to East Africa in 2008 as a TOW Fellow and conducted field work which resulted in her first publication, a monograph on political stability in the region. She has since published another monograph based on field work conducted in the Arab Gulf region on Arab-African political history and the Zanzibari Revolution.
Prior to joining the Chertoff Group, Ms. Thiessen successfully applied her understanding of African and Middle Eastern politics in research, analysis and business development capacities at the Business Council for International Understanding and the London School of Economics, as well as a professional consultancy at the United Nations in New York City.
Ms. Thiessen holds a B.A. in Political Science from Columbia University, and a MSc in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics.
