Jim Pflaging is the global lead for the strategy and business development practice for The Chertoff Group. He works with technology firms and investors to develop growth plans and to evaluate and implement investment opportunities across many sectors. In these roles, Mr. Pflaging focuses on the intersection of big data, cyber security, and open source software and provides strategic advice encompassing product, positioning, alliance & channel development strategy. In addition, he serves on the board of several security companies.
Mr. Pflaging has over 25 years of Silicon Valley experience including 15 years as CEO of cyber security and data management companies. Earlier, he spent over 10 years with global telecommunications providers in sales and marketing management.
Previously, Mr. Pflaging was the Director and Managing Principal SINET, a cybersecurity community builder and advisory firm. From 2004 to 2010, Mr. Pflaging was CEO of SenSage, a provider of security management solutions that was acquired by KEYW. Under his leadership, SenSage moved from early revenue to profitability and a multi-year leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for SIEM & Log Management. From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Pflaging served as CEO of Bonsai Networks, an 802.11 OSS/BSS provider that he led through its acquisition. Prior to leading Bonsai Networks, he was CEO of Intraspect, a provider of collaboration and content management software, which was acquired by Vignette. From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Pflaging was the founder and CEO of Pacific Bell Network Integration (PBNI), the managed security and network services subsidiary of SBC. Before launching PBNI, Mr. Pflaging spent 10 years with Sprint where he ran a $200M+ organization within Sprint’s national accounts division.
He is based in San Francisco and is a frequent speaker on cybersecurity and related issues. Mr. Pflaging holds a B.S. in Commerce with dual concentrations in Finance and Marketing from the University of Virginia.
