TCG Webinar: "Diminishing the Cyber Threat: How State and Local Governments Can Get Ahead"

March 18, 2015

2:00 - 3:00pm EST

As cybercrime continues to increase in threat and severity, the need for government action and response in close collaboration with enterprises and industry has never been more important. For the federal government, there are an increasing number of programs and initiatives in place. Yet for the state and local government, limited resources and escalating cybersecurity challenges continue to plague their ability to prepare and mitigate an attack. The sensitive types of personal information state and local governments hold—including health insurance information, confidential legal information, and confidential criminal information—only amplifies the need for robust cybersecurity, while often fragmented state and local government IT networks and systems makes cybersecurity even harder. While a few collaborative programs are in place to help improve state and local government cybersecurity programs, there is a lack of awareness of these tools, resources, and how to leverage federal programs.

View this webcast to:

  • Gain insight and guidance on the growing cyber threat facing state and local governments
  • Identify the resources and programs available to state and local governments
  • Learn how state and local government officials can build a more effective and threat-centric approach to guarding and preparing against cyber threats.

Speakers:

  • Steve Caimi, Industry Solutions Specialist, US Public Sector
  • Dan Lohrmann, Chief Security Officer & Chief Strategist, Security Mentor, Inc; former Chief Security Officer, State of Michigan
  • Teri Takai, Former Chief Information Officer, State of California

The Chertoff Group Security Series: "Beyond CDM - Transitioning to an Active Cyber Defense"

When: November 4, 2014; 9:00am - 5:00pm

Where: The Hilton Hotel in McLean - Tysons Corner

The Federal government developed the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program to strengthen network security and improve our ability to identify and measure risk.  The goal of CDM is to move our focus from annual compliance reviews to precise, timely risk measurements enabling rapid remediation of those priority concerns. While this effort is commendable, many have expressed doubts as the threat environment is moving much faster than adoption of the CDM program.  Given the expectation that this environment will continue, there is a need to augment CDM with more intelligent and automated detection and response capabilities across government and the private sector.   The Chertoff Group Security Series will address new approaches to information sharing, analysis, and automated protection and defense as well as explore policy and governance implications for both the public and private sector.

The Chertoff Group Security Series brings together top minds and seasoned experts from both government and industry for thoughtful and thorough discussions around today's most serious security issues as well as the necessary tools and tactics to effectively manage these risks.

JOIN US ON NOV. 4th AND LEARN:

  • How is the cyber threat evolving?
  • What value has CDM delivered to date for federal agencies and departments?
  • How does the federal government plan to move the CDM program forward?
  • What does “active cyber defense” mean?
  • How can CDM concepts and automation tools be better applied to the private sector?
  • How can we reduce the time it takes to share information and automate response action?
  • Where can we integrate and automate tools to create a stronger cyber defense?
  • What response actions require human decisions and where can we leverage machine support?
