Bloomberg Law recently published an op-ed by Chertoff Group Co-Founder and Executive Chairman Michael Chertoff on why the risks of AI must be addressed and guardrails established. Secretary Chertoff penned the article in his capacity as a special adviser on the American Bar Association Artificial Intelligence Task Force.
“Because AI promises to transform virtually every industry sector, it is essential that organizations consider how to implement guardrails using a three-pronged approach of data, disclosure, and decision-making. For data, focus should be on both accuracy and securing the legal right to use the data, such as whether it was screen-scraped without the consent of the owner.
Additionally, organizations displaying text or video content developed by AI should disclose that fact. One of the White House’s 2023 Voluntary AI Commitments is for AI companies to develop provenance to determine if a particular piece of content was created with their system. And finally, organizations should never leave a final decision that affects a human being to AI. A human should always be in the loop as the final adjudicator.”
