Wayne McCool is a recognized leader in national security, intelligence, and emerging technology who has spent more than three decades guiding organizations through high‑risk, high‑consequence environments. Drawing on his experience as the CIA’s Associate Deputy Director for Analysis and earlier leadership roles across the Intelligence Community and U.S. Navy, Wayne brings clients a rare combination of operational insight and strategic acumen for today’s complex business climate and hands‑on experience integrating advanced data analytics and AI into mission workflows. As a Senior Advisor to The Chertoff Group, he helps companies working in national security, defense, AI and data rapidly align capabilities with real‑world intelligence and operational requirements.
During his government service, Wayne repeatedly demonstrated that effective use of emerging technology is fundamentally about culture, tradecraft and people as much as about tools. At CIA, he led a multi‑year digital transformation of the analysis enterprise, shifting the culture toward data‑driven methods, expanding analysts’ technical fluency and embedding advanced analytics and AI into everyday workflows to increase speed and insight at scale. He oversaw global programs focused on regional analysis, emerging technology, cyber, data science, space and counternarcotics, while ensuring the quality of global intelligence and the professional development of several thousand officers. He earned multiple senior leadership honors, including the Presidential Rank Award, the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal and the CIA Director’s Award.
Wayne’s perspective is grounded in deep front‑line experience with some of the most complex and sensitive national security challenges of the last two decades. He led major analytic programs on the Near East and counterterrorism through periods of intense conflict and policy crisis, playing a direct role in supporting the President, senior policymakers, Congress and foreign partners on consequential U.S. policy decisions.
Earlier, as Chief of the Central Arabia Mission and Deputy National Intelligence Manager for Iran, he helped steer U.S. intelligence posture on issues ranging from ISIS and Yemen to Gulf leadership transitions, sanctions and negotiations. His career began as a U.S. Navy special operations officer specializing in explosive ordnance disposal, mine warfare and diving, with deployments to the Middle East, Japan, and Korea.
Today, Wayne serves as a advisor to AI, data and IT firms focused on national security and intelligence, where he provides strategic guidance on product design, technology transition and mission alignment. He supports due diligence for mergers, acquisitions and partnerships in the intelligence and defense sector, and speaks on the impact of data science, targeting, analytics and emerging technology on intelligence and operational missions.
Wayne holds a Master of Science from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Naval Academy. He lives in Leesburg, Virginia.
