Brendan North serves as a Director with The Chertoff Group’s Security Risk & Resilience practice.
Prior to joining The Chertoff Group, Brendan was a consultant in Control Risks’ Crisis and Security Consulting practice, where he primarily focused on crisis management and business resilience. While at Control Risks, Brendan also served as a senior embedded consultant on the global security team of a major ride-hailing company. On the global security team, Brendan led enterprise-wide crisis communications in the aftermath of a multi-casualty vehicle-based attack in a major metropolitan area, and regularly worked with global security leadership on managing incident response, travel security, and monitoring regional security dynamics.
Brendan worked at Maxar as a human terrain analyst and was contracted to the multi-disciplinary Rapid Feedback Team at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). In this capacity, Brendan served as a project and deputy team lead for the open-source node, where he focused on new analytic workflows that included emerging technologies, designed for use throughout the intelligence community. Brendan briefed senior government officials on an array of geopolitical matters, including China’s “One Belt, One Road” development in the Kazakhstan border region, the regional human security implications of the Burundi political crisis, and the identification of stakeholders in the Libyan civil war. While in this role, Brendan also published an article at the Modern War Institute at West Point on using an emerging markets framework to better understand Russia’s soft power in its “near abroad.”
Engagement Highlights
- Developed a security framework and COVID-19 mitigation roadmap for a global event management company
- Conducted a travel security and programmatic review of a major international think tank, including country risk assessments for the organization’s field operations
- Provided strategic advisory support to a technology company focused upon the US national security implications of the global 5G race
- Led a federal market assessment for a publicly-traded construction management company, including market implications from the COVID-19 pandemic
